Attention Deficient Disorder

Wednesday February 6, 2008

Attention Deficient Disorder has become a major industry today. We have doctors who specialize in ADD, support groups, and drugs for the disorder. We do not have ADD in our family. My mother (rest her soul) had the care. You paid attention or you got your head knocked off, no attention deficient here. Today I am sure it would be called child abuse but it worked. Making child abuse a crime certainly has created a lack of discipline in this generation. This is another area that we need to change in our society. I am not talking about the sever neglect or abuse but the everyday job of disciplining your child so that they become a happy and responsible adults. Children are adults in training and it is our job as parents and community to see that these little adult are property trained. I propose a five minute rule: If you are in a public place and you can not get your child in control after five minutes it is open to anyone else to step in and do it for you. After one or two times a stranger smacking your child to stop his temper fit he will become aware of what he tries the next time in public. You will also become more of a disciplinary in controlling your children. So the next time you are in public with your child and he is misbehaving, or another child is annoying you, remember the 5 Minute Rule and see if it wouldn’t make you feel better.
